MoH Board member Van Kornegay sends a
child on her way with a new blanket in the village of
Matapila as Center Director
Shadraq Chisenga looks on.
Blanket
handout aids Malawian children during cold weather
months MoH sponsored
a blanket handout program in July to provide orphans some
additional
shelter from the cold.
This was the second year in a row for the
blanket handout program. Last year there were funds to purchase
blankets for only about
half
of the
children MoH serves at its feeding
centers, but this year several generous donations made it
possible to make sure every child was given a blanket.
Cold weather makes the months of June through
August especially hard for destitute children in Malawi.
Many have only lightweight clothes and inadequate shelther
to protect them from nights where temperatures can drop below
50°F.
The blankets were purchased in bulk from
a dealer in Malawi and distributed at the feeding centers
by MoH Center Directors and village leaders. MoH handed
out approximately 1000 blankets to children in five
villages.
