An Irish blessing and a creative corporate gift help
promote
the work of Ministry of Hope
Ministry of Hope is blessed each year with volunteers from various countries
who come to Malawi to work with the ministry. Last year we welcomed
Ray Cordon from Ireland. When he returned to home to Shannon, Ray
wanted to continue to help MoH by sharing the story of what the
Lord is doing in Malawi.
“I applied for a permit from the city,” he explained, “and
held a collection at the Shannon Town Centre.” To make people aware of
the need for financial support, he put up a banner, “Malawi Orphan Care,” and
had stickers made and posters with pictures and information about the work of
Ministry of Hope. Ray said, “With all the needs created by the tsunami
disaster, I was worried that the response would not be the best. Thankfully I
was wrong. I think the disaster has made the world more aware of the need for
orphan care.”
Ray has forwarded an amazing $2,945.38 (U.S.) to further the Lord’s work
through MoH.
Bill and Jan Kaneft have had a major impact on spreading the story of MoH, although
they have never been to Malawi.
After seeing photos and video of board member Van Kornegay’s trip to Malawi
last summer, the Kaneft’s funded the production of 700 DVDs that contain
a five minute video that tells the MoH story. In lieu of Christmas gifts last
December, Bill’s company, Colonial Packaging in Sumter, South Carolina,
sent 300 of the DVDs to their clients with a letter explaining that a donation
had been made in the client’s name to help in the cause of orphan care
in Malawi.
MoH is distributing the remaining DVDs to donors and friends of the ministry.
It has been an excellent way to introduce new friends to the work of the ministry
in Malawi. In April more than 200 people saw it at the Medical Benevolence Fund
(MBF) conference meeting in Arizona. (MBF is a validated mission support group
of the PCUSA.)
The impact of Bill and Jan’s gift multiplies as more and more people hear
the story of Ministry of Hope.
