Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Ministry of Hope accepts donations in the form of stock and mutual funds to our brokerage account.  Upon receiving these shares, MoH will execute its sale and subsequently transfer the proceeds to the area of your choice. The MoH Board or Investment Committee may not provide donors with any information or tax advice, but recommends that donors consult with a professional financial or tax advisor before taking any action. A tax receipt for the donated shares will be issued to you for your records based on the average of the high/low prices on the date of the gift.

MoH can accept gifts of readily marketable securities, such as stocks and ETFs, which are traded on a major stock exchange, and most mutual funds.  Benefits include:

  • Tax Savings: Donating appreciated securities generally lets you avoid paying capital gains tax and may allow for a charitable deduction at the stock’s full fair market value

  • Greater Impact: As a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity, MoH can sell donated securities tax-free, so your gift goes further

  • Portfolio Benefits: Gifting securities helps rebalance your investments while supporting vulnerable children in Malawi

  • Convenience: Gifting securities is often simple and quick through most brokerage firms

Please use the form below to notify MoH of an incoming transfer.
