Being the Hands, Feet, and Eyes of Jesus in Malawi
"Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,"
When I first read this beautiful prayer by St. Teresa of Ávila, I thought of the staff of Ministry of Hope. Each day MOH staff members share God's love with the children that come to the Community Centers and the Crisis Nursery.
As supporters of MOH I would like you to meet Felix Khonje. Felix is 42 years old. He has devoted 19 years of his life to the work of MOH and is now the center director in the village of Khwamba. He is responsible for the physical, psychosocial, and spriritual care of almost 1200 children served by the center. Felix and his wife Filipina, have three children of their own, Chisomo, Trinity, and Precious. Because of the high 32% inflation rate in Malawi, Felix and Filipina struggle to provide for their family’s basic needs. MOH has been challenged to provide raises to staff as the cost to care for the increasing numbers of the needy children in the villages have also increased.
You can make a difference in the lives of Felix and other MOH staff members. Even a modest donation can go a long way. A 25% raise for the entire staff of MOH amounts to only a $1,750 increase in our monthly budget.
When you give undesignated or designate your gift for the operations of MOH you enable the staff to provide for their families and to be the hands and feet of Jesus to these children. You empower them to respond to the needs they see and make a difference in the lives of their families and Malawi's most needy children.
